Joseph Smith's First Vision: Sacred Grove in Palmyra, New York

“I saw a pillar of light exactly over my head, above the brightness of the sun, which descended gradually until it fell upon me” (JS-H 1:16)

Abstract

The most important event to happen in these latter days occurred in the Sacred Grove in Palmyra, New York. Here, the fourteen-year-old boy, Joseph Smith Jr., knelt down and, in response to fervent prayer, received a vision of God the Father and Jesus Christ. The nine contemporary accounts of the First Vision are included in the presentation.
Errata: Note that in the video, Lloyd D. Newell is erroneously identified as “Lloyd K. Newel.” Our apologies to Dr. Newell… The location of the Smith Frame home identified by a box in the aerial photograph is actually the building to the east Also, of interest, Hathaway Creek was sometimes referred to as “Crooked Creek.”
